Dear Applicant,
The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program at Oklahoma State University is one of 187 programs at colleges and universities across the country and part of a group of federal programs known collectively as TRIO. The McNair Scholars Program is designed to prepare talented, highly motivated juniors and seniors at Oklahoma State University from low-income, first-generation and underrepresented groups for Ph.D. study through involvement in research and other scholar activities.Â
At OSU, program participants MUST meet the following requirements before becoming a McNair Scholar:
- Be a first-generation college student (where neither parent completed a bachelor's degree) and have low family income level, as established by the U.S. Department of Education;Â OR
- Be a member of one of the following underrepresented groups in graduate education (African-American/Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Hispanic/Latino, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander).
 All participants must also meet the additional requirements below:
- Be an OSU undergraduate student who will have obtained at least 60 credit hours by the fall semester immediately following acceptance into the program.Â
- U.S. citizen or permanent residency status.Â
- Entering the final two years of a bachelor's degree program in the fall immediately following acceptance into the program.Â
- Expecting to immediately enter an academic/research graduate program upon graduation.
- The McNair Scholars Program is not open to students pursuing professional degrees such as medical, veterinary, or law degrees.
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA OR demonstrate significant academic progress towards a competitive GPA.
